Twitter removes 140 character limit for Direct Messages

Twitter removes 140 character limit for Direct Messages

So today was the day Twitter removes 140 character limit for Direct Messages.  How does this make you feel?

The news has been greeted with nothing but positivity in the social media world.  This is just a snap shot from the offcial announcement:

“While Twitter is largely a public experience, Direct Messages let you have private conversations about the memes, news, movements and events that unfold on Twitter.  Each of the hundreds of millions of Tweets sent across Twitter every day is an opportunity for you to spark a conversation about what’s happening in your world.  That’s why we’ve madea number of changes to Direct Messages over the last few months.  Today’s change is another big step towards making the private side of Twitter eve more powerful and fun.”

Direct Messaging changes

There are more changes afoot with who can DM who.  Previously on Twitter you could only DM someone who was following you and vice versa, not any more, which is great!  I used to hate having to tell the person to follow me back so I could DM them.  Twitter users now have the choice to receive DM’s from anyone.  I’m over the moon with this and can’t tell you how happy it makes me feel.  Group messages have also been implemented allowing more people to experience opportunities and to engage.

These are just a few things that were stated in the official announcement.  I feel that there will be more positive feedback to this rather than negative.  I was a tad skeptical about these changes as thought “oh no here comes more spam” but after looking into it from a business perspetive it will be a good opportunity.  If things do become a tad spammy you have the option to to turn settings off and block potential spammers using Twitter tools.

That’s it for now. Check out my other social media hints and tips in my blog here:
